The Hijacking of Flight 601 is Netflix’s latest Spanish series, which is a thriller based on a true story. When it comes to the plot of a plane being hijacked, there are more movies on the concept, than series, and that is for a reason.

Some of the best movies that have centered around a plane being hijacked are Non-Stop, Air Force One, and Neerja to name a few. However, the only popular TV series about a plane being hijacked was Idris Elba’s Hijack.

It should be noted that The Hijacking of Flight 601 was a political thriller, which added several angles and elements to the series that needed to be paid attention to, however, despite that, this Netflix series simply felt way too long. Nevertheless, it had some good moments and we’re here to help you decide whether you should stream The Hijacking of Flight 601, or skip it!

Monica Lopera’s Best Performance So Far

The Hijacking of Flight 601 had a grand total of 6 episodes, and if there was one thing that remained consistent from start to finish was Monica Lopera’s performance, which truly presented itself as a knight in shining armor for the series.

It is entirely possible, that if it weren’t for Lopera, this series would have been completely bland, with almost nothing to look forward to. Of course, since The Hijacking of Flight 601 was based on a true story, the suspense around it was immense, however, it was simply too long.

We do not doubt for a second that if The Hijacking of Flight 601 was a movie instead of a series, it would have gained a lot more traction, and also kept our attention on the characters and subplots that were introduced in this series.

The Hijacking of Flight 601 had a lot going on for it, and considering the fact that it was picked up by Netflix, a streaming platform with some of the best content out there, the expectations were set high, however, this political thriller lacked the wow factor that we were desperately looking for in these episodes.

There are times your boss calls in for a meeting and it goes on and on even though the point of the meeting could have just been an email, that’s exactly what The Hijacking of Flight 601 felt like. It has so much potential to be a gripping thriller, however, after the initial two episodes, we found ourselves losing interest, and by the end of the series, there just wasn’t enough to look forward to, even though that’s when the excitement and suspense should have been at its peak.

The Hijacking of Flight 601 had several elements that worked for it from time to time, aside from Lopera’s performance. The tension in the flight and amongst the passengers was fairly gripping, and enough to keep the pace somewhat alive during the entire series.

Nevertheless, the best part about The Hijacking of Flight 601 was the cast, including Valentín Villafañe, Christian Tappan, Marcela Benjumeaa, Angela Cano and Enrique Carriazo.

Conclusion

The Hijacking of Flight 601 was simply not our cup of tea, but because the concept was gripping, based on a true story, and had some great cast members, we reached the end of the series but would have favored it a lot more if it were a movie.
