Bon Appetit Your Majesty Episode 3 Review

The episode opens with Leon touching Jing, but Mogju interrupts, warning him about the cold and urging him to go to his room. Jiang questions their location, expressing fear due to the strange and hostile environment. Leon reassures her, revealing he has prepared a special residence for her.

Later, Leon receives medical treatment after a blood injury, and Mogju secretly hides Aro, the physician. The group discusses keeping the king’s injury a secret. It emerges that Jiang saved Leon’s life by stopping his bleeding. Mogju suspects Jiang but denies her being a criminal. The concept of a “special residence,” linked to the Bal Gang concubine system, causes tension and jealousy among the women.

Two girls, Jing and Gamgil, are imprisoned but maintain optimism despite the harsh conditions. Mogju learns more about the special residence and decides to investigate Jiang’s background through the governor’s secretary. Meanwhile, the royal kitchen scene introduces Bong Sik, the senior cook, and other chefs who gossip about the arrival of a female ghost (Jing). Lady Kim informs them of recent political punishments linked to Jiang’s presence, leading to speculation about the king’s personal vendetta.

Songje, a royal officer, confronts Mogju about the governor’s family, who have been enslaved and sent to the palace. He warns Mogju about disobedience, but she insists on following her orders. Songje reveals his plan to stop Mogju’s misuse of power. At night, Jiang is rescued from prison by masked figures, including Gongil, who works for Leon. Gongil’s charm impresses Gilgyum, who is willing to forgive his past betrayals.

Leon tests Jiang’s culinary skills with three dishes, including venison, and is impressed by her talent. Jiang reveals she comes from the future, surprising Leon. Outside, Mogju tries to meet the king but is stopped by Changsu. She fights back but is told the king forbids her entry. Meanwhile, Jiang and Leon’s complex relationship deepens as Leon chooses her for a mysterious role, possibly as a concubine, causing Jiang to worry about altering history.

Songje pressures Jiang to spy on Leon for safety reasons, but she hesitates, fearing his wrath. They agree on a secret alliance with conditions. Mogju plans to use cook Mansoo to torture Jiang, but Jiang and Gamgil resist, even attempting to set fire to escape. The royal assembly debates Jiang’s exile, with officials demanding her removal. Leon asserts his authority and commands Jiang to be brought to the assembly.

In a dramatic assembly scene, Jiang is accused of being a criminal, but Leon defends her, appointing her as the chief royal cook, shocking everyone. The queen daughter challenges Jiang to a cooking competition with severe consequences if she fails. Jiang fears for her life but resolves to prove herself with Leon’s encouragement.

The episode ends with preparations for the competition, political tension rising, and Jiang determined to survive and succeed in the royal kitchen, setting the stage for the next episode.

The episode skillfully blends themes of survival, loyalty, power, and intrigue within the royal palace, setting up a suspenseful narrative that keeps viewers engaged and anticipating future developments.
